Understanding Catnip and Its Effects on Felines

What is catnip?

Catnip, also known as catmint, is a plant that has intoxicating effects on a large majority of cats. This herb contains a compound called nepetalactone, which stimulates felines' olfactory receptors. Thus, when cats inhale or ingest this plant, they can experience a state of intense joy. However, not all cats react in the same way, as about 50 to 75% of felines are sensitive to this herb. This makes it an excellent way to enrich their environment.
